Your cross is not your sacrifice. Jesus was crucified ON a cross. Therefore, to take up your cross is to be ready for the world to crucify you for the sake of the gospel. Taking up my cross is the willingness to be rejected by the world.
Take up thy cross, the Saviour said,
If thou wouldst My disciple be;
Deny thyself, the world forsake,
And humbly follow after Me.
If traditions can’t save us, then traditions can’t keep us saved. Therefore, we don’t have to worry about keeping up appearances…
Before salvation we are broken, diseased, sin-sick. We were so debilitated by sin that it was impossible to serve God. Salvation heals our sin-sickness: it makes us whole, so that we can “live unto righteousness”.
Some treat the blood of Christ as nothing special, they say it was no different from any other blood, but that is NOT what God says in His Word… Only through faith in the blood of Christ can we be saved…
This Christmas, let us never lose sight of this fact: that Jesus was born to die, so that we who are dead could live. In the exultant celebration of Jesus’ birth, remember that the gift God gave us is Jesus’ death.
