Gleaming Light
Then in these acts of kindness done
It is not me you see,
But glimpses of that Loving One
Who chose to dwell in me.
Then in these acts of kindness done
It is not me you see,
But glimpses of that Loving One
Who chose to dwell in me.
I’M ENCOURAGED, because ultimately the problem is not a SKIN problem, it is a SIN problem. SIN is the reason we rebel against authority. SIN is the reason we abuse our authority. SIN is the reason we are racist, prejudiced and lie to cover for our own. SIN is the reason we riot, loot and burn. BUT I’M ENCOURAGED because God has provided a solution for sin through the his son Jesus and with it, a transformed heart and mind. One that’s capable of looking past the outward and seeing what’s truly important in every human being. The cure for the Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, Tamir Rice and Eric Garner tragedies is not education or exposure. It’s the Gospel. So, finally, I’M ENCOURAGED because the Gospel gives mankind hope.
Rest assured, I do believe there are systemic issues plaguing black men. These issues are violence, criminality, and immorality, to name a few. And all of these issues are rooted in and connected to the epidemic of fatherlessness. Any truly gospel-centered response to the plight of black men must address these issues first and foremost. It does no good to change the way white police officers respond to black men if we don’t first address the fact that these men’s fathers have not responded to them appropriately.
When days of darkness come upon us, let us not count it a strange thing. Rather let us remember that lessons are learned on such days, which would never have been learned in sunshine.
This survey [points] out common gaps in theological knowledge and awareness so that Christians might be more effective in the proclamation, teaching, and defense of the essential truths of the Christian faith.
I thank Thee, Lord, that here our souls
Though amply blessed,
Can never find, although they seek
A perfect rest;
Nor ever shall, until they lean
On Jesus’ breast.
Teach me, Father, how to go
Softly as the grasses grow…
…Place where passing souls can rest
On the way and be their best.
Other people may discern what we are but their observations and criticisms (even their compliments) carry no power to transform us. So God has ordained that we look into His Word and allow His Spirit to show us our own need and His remedy for character flaws and besetting sins.

Dick Woodward, October 25, 1930 – March 8, 2014 Last Saturday Dick Woodward went to be with his precious Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, surrounded by family in a hospital room in Williamsburg, Virginia. Now resting in the Everlasting Arms of God amidst the green pastures and still waters of Heaven, he is free from the pain and suffering that was such a part of his daily life. Even though he always said, “my blessings outweigh my sufferings,” we are grateful that in God’s mercy he is now finally free for all eternity. Pastor, teacher, preacher, mentor, friend, brother, husband & father, Dick Woodward will live on in our memories and hearts for many years to come. He was not one for fancy Latin words and didn’t speak ‘with a steeple in his throat,’ but we are remembering him now. If you have special memories to share, please do comment them to this blog. It has been such a blessing to read over the many testimonies sprinkled throughout this blog to…

Question: does God want you to be healthy, wealthy, and wise? Many Christians would say that yes, this is God’s desire for our lives. Better Question: does God want to conform us into the image of His Son, Our Savior, Jesus Christ? Yes, yes, and yes again. This means that the Lord will go to great lengths to accomplish this in your life. Including bringing suffering into your life. Not a once of us would ask to go through the school of suffering. But, I can attest, great growth in faith and the Gospel comes through our suffering well in Christ. A friend of mine called it a subtle heresy that most Christians believe, when we that God wants to make us happy and comfortable. Actually he wrecks our comfort, especially our comfort with our sin. When we quit fighting for our sanctification. God wrecks our apathy. My friend and his wife had great plans for their son, until they realized that he was autistic. All of a sudden they…
